Tallahassee Nursing home attorney

Scott Gwartney joined the Brooks, LeBoeuf, Bennett & Foster team in 2002, and became a partner in 2003. Mr. Gwartney, who grew up in Tallahassee, is a magna cum laude graduate of Liberty University, and a 1991 graduate of the Florida State University College of Law. He began his legal career with renown trial lawyer, Ken Connor, who tried one of the first nursing home cases in the state of Florida.  The Connor & Gwartney firm eventually joined the Tampa-based nationwide nursing home litigation firm of Wilkes & McHugh, as their Tallahassee office, where Mr. Gwartney practiced until he joined BLBF&G in 2002.

Mr. Gwartney passionately believes that our seniors deserve no less respect and level of dignity than that which is afforded to any other segment of our society.  The results of Mr. Gwartney's experience and efforts on behalf of the elderly speak volumes about his level of expertise in the fields of long term care litigation, and other medical litigation.  Along with Ken Connor, he tried the case of Collins v. Beverly Enterprise-Florida, to a verdict in excess of $12 million, which remains as the largest nursing home verdict in North Florida.  His work on behalf of his clients has led to dozens of verdicts and settlements of $1 million, or more, with million dollar settlements being posted in three different states.

Mr. Gwartney has been recognized by his peers, as he has been named among the Top 100 Trial Lawyers, a Super Lawyer (top 5%), and Legal Elite (top 2%).  He is frequently invited to present lectures to other legal professionals in the fields of nursing home litigation and medical malpractice.  Mr. Gwartney’s trial practice is very active in all courts in Florida and Georgia, and he is also licensed in Tennessee and Texas.

Mr. Gwartney is a strong believer in faith, family, and community.  He is active in his church and community, serving on the board of directors for several charitable organizations in the Tallahassee area.  He is happily married and enjoys spending time with his wife, Cathy, and their three children.  He is also an avid fan of Florida State University athletics!
