Former Scholarship Winner Will Doran visits July 20, 2010 - We were preparing to present the 2010 Freedom Scholarship award when we learned that the Tallahassee Democrat would have a reporter in attendance at the presentation. Will Doran, a former Freedom Scholarship winner, is home for the summer and working for the Democrat. Since winning the award in 2008, Will has attended the University of North Carolina. He is currently a junior double majoring in Journalism and Arabic. This year he'll be an editor of the school paper, the Daily Tar Heel. Leon High School student, William Doran, breaks Lincoln High School's The Leon Lions now have something else to celebrate. After a six year stronghold, Lincoln was outdone by Leon High School senior William Doran in the 2008 Brooks, LeBoeuf, Bennett, Foster & Gwartney Freedom Scholarship competition. William Doran’s essay on the Bill of Rights was selected by Circuit Judge Kevin Davey, Circuit Judge Angela Dempsey and Circuit Judge Kathleen Dekker as the best essay of all the submissions from Leon, Wakulla, Gadsden and Jefferson counties. William’s ability and talents are reflected in his academic excellence and writing ability. William was the National Latin Brain Bowl Champion, and Captain of the Leon High school Brain Bowl Team. Outside academics, he enjoys playing tennis. His 15 year old younger brother clearly has big shoes to fill. William is following the family tradition of leaving home to attend school out of state and has been accepted and plans to attend the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He intends to use the $2,500 award to help defray the cost of his tuition. We are very proud of William’s accomplishments and wish him the very best in the future. From left to right:
